Buying at a property auction
How does a property auction work?
The auctioneer sells the property to the highest bidder on the auction day, usually subject to the seller’s confirmation. Register with the auctioneer before bidding and bring your ID and proof of address.
What deposit do I need?
Auction houses usually ask for a deposit and buyer’s commission on the fall of the hammer, with a guarantee for the balance to follow. The exact terms are in the auctioneer’s conditions of sale.
Can I view the property before the auction?
Often, yes. Auction houses usually arrange viewings or show days before the auction, so contact the auctioneer to book one.
